Between one and three, growth looks boring on purpose. The rapid first-year gains give way to a slower, steadier climb — and that is exactly the healthy pattern.
The toddler slowdown
After the first birthday, growth drops to a few centimeters a year and weight gain becomes modest. Appetite also swings wildly, which surprises most parents — and is normal.
Appetite and the curve
A toddler who eats little one day and a lot the next is typical. Percentiles from the WHO Growth Reference still hold steady overall; the wiggly appetite rarely moves the trend.
When to look closer
Watch for a curve that falls across percentile lines over several months, weight that plateaus while appetite is clearly poor, or growth that stalls entirely. Those deserve a pediatric visit.
A chart that grows with them
GrowChart keeps the same WHO-standard chart from birth through the toddler years, so you can see the whole journey on one steady curve.
